Things to do in the area

Whangarei Heads is one of those hidden places, just off the beaten track and therefore missed by many people travelling on to the more well known spots.   So, this relatively undiscovered area, just east of Whangarei, remains largely unspoilt, and retains an atmosphere of coastal and rural life from a more relaxed, bygone age.   Here you are more likely to meet the locals on holiday in their summer bachs, than crowds of visitors.   You will find spectacular beaches and, and as often as not, there will only be a handful of people on them… and did we mention that we have some of the best snapper fishing in Northland?

 

Outdoor activities close by include:

Beaches : Ocean Beach (good for surfing) , Pataua, Taurikura and Smugglers Cove.

Fishing : Whangarei Harbour, great fishing for Snapper, Kahawai and Kingfish.

Walking : Mount Manaia, Mount Aubrey, Smugglers Cove, Peach Cove, Bream Head

Golf : The Pines at Parua Bay plus 3 other courses close by in Whangarei.

Sea Kayaking : Locally Based in Onerahi, offering trips for all skill levels.

   3 kms          to Parua Bay Village Store, Petrol Station and Wine Shop
   5 kms          to The Pines Golf Club with spectacular views
   9 kms         to The Deck licensed cafe
   9 kms          to Mt Aubrey.
   11 kms        to Onerahi Airport (Pick up by arrangement)
   10 kms        to Abbey Caves.  Go with a group tour or on your own.
   13 kms        to Mt. Manaia
   15 kms        to Pataua South and North for swimming and fishing.
   18 kms        to Smugglers Cove via Urquharts Bay
   19 kms        to Whangarei town and falls.
   20 kms        to Ocean beach. Great surf and lifeguards!
